FUTURE OLYMPIA
THE NEXT 130 YEARS
The renowned creative studio narrativ. has shared with us a wonderful video, the result of hard work that began back in 2018 and continues to this day, where they have been responsible for finding, creating and establishing the digital tools that speak to the desired audience for the prestigious Olympia project.
narrativ's work was initially dedicated to generating compelling imagery in order to raise private funds, secure planning permission, generate public engagement with the project and, more recently, acquire key tenants.
Since opening its doors on Boxing Day 1886, Olympia has enjoyed a colorful history as a venue for exhibitions and events such as the Ideal Home fair, Crufts and even Jimi Hendrix. The Olympia site is colossal, popular but also quite neglected: it occupies more than 14 acres and currently has an impenetrable 1km border with its neighbors. Award-winning architecture and design practice Heatherwick Studio, together with SPAARC, have reimagined Olympia as a new arts, entertainment and exhibition district for London. New arts spaces, cinemas, performance and rehearsal spaces and 2.5 acres of public space will ensure Olympia is unrivaled as an entertainment destination for the next generation.
The first challenge for narrativ. was technical: receiving and organizing 27 highly detailed 3D models of the structures to be retained and the proposed new additions from three different teams of architects and surveyors. From there, generate a detailed and accurate 3D representation of the entire site, including materiality, lighting and landscaping.
Secondly, to seamlessly blend the old with the new to communicate the vision of the project to the various stakeholders. To showcase the heritage of the site with the vitality, openness and cultural opportunities that the revitalization will bring.
The still images that narrativ. developed at the beginning of the project clearly explained how the redevelopment fit in with its neighbors. This helped the client complete the final planning phases and secure private financing. Hammersmith & Fulham approval of the project was published in the national press accompanied by narrativ's illustrations of the site and the renovated Victorian exhibition center.
Through close collaboration with an architecture and marketing team, narrativ. delivered an exciting animated film and immersive virtual reality experience that was used by Thomas Heatherwick to launch the project at the London Design Festival 2019. The film and VR successfully communicated a new open Olympia: light and airy exhibition halls, a welcoming public space and adaptable spaces hosting local markets, large sculptural exhibitions and film premieres. Both the film and VR have succeeded in attracting the local community, businesses, visitors and other interested parties to the project.
Thanks to the interior design expertise of the narrativ. team, they were able to produce a series of marketing images on a tight deadline. This work was instrumental in helping their client secure very attractive tenants.
The collaboration with the client and the Olympia Future design teams continues.
Working with AXYZ products on these images has been wonderful. Thanks to the ease of use of anima® ALL and the huge variety of animated 4D characters included, we have been able to fully enjoy great creative freedom. Thank you AXYZ!
